Last week at Mobile World Congress (MWC), one of the world’s most influential technology events, I had the opportunity to visit our Google booth to demonstrate something truly exciting — our prototype Android XR AI glasses. As a Googler, it was both a proud and fascinating moment to showcase how far artificial intelligence and wearable computing have progressed, and more importantly, where they are headed.

This might sound simple, but it highlights a major shift in human-computer interaction. Instead of searching manually, typing keywords, or opening multiple apps, AI can now interpret your surroundings and act accordingly.

One of my favorite moments during the demo involved a more complex AI interaction. I asked Gemini to take a photo and then reimagine it as if it were taken in front of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. However, at the moment, I couldn’t remember the name of the famous basilica.

Instead of failing, Gemini understood the context of what I was describing and correctly identified the landmark.

This demonstrated something very important about modern AI: it does not just process exact keywords anymore. It can interpret incomplete thoughts, context clues, and visual references to determine user intent.

This kind of flexible intelligence makes interactions feel more human and less mechanical.

Prototypes, Not Final Products

It is important to emphasize that what we demonstrated at MWC is still an early prototype. They are designed to test functionality rather than represent the final hardware design.

For example, the demo units included temporary clip-on prescription lenses created specifically for the event. These are not intended to reflect how final consumer versions will handle vision correction.

Prototype devices often look bulkier or include temporary solutions because the focus at this stage is proving what is possible, not perfecting design aesthetics.

The final versions will likely look and feel very different.

The Broader Android XR Ecosystem

Android XR is not just about one pair of smart glasses; it’s about Android XR AI glasses. It represents a broader ecosystem of devices exploring different ways AI can integrate into daily life.

In the coming months, we expect to share more information about:

Final Thoughts
